I’m in a relationship… with my Dishwasher!

No seriously I mean it! And it’s pure, real love. I love my dishwasher and it loves me back!

So a little background, I recently moved from Nairobi to Dubai (my husband’s work relocated) and prior to that I grew up and lived all my life in India, Delhi NCR to be specific. Coming from a typical middle class Punju family we never did dishes like West, all we knew was to wash dishes (bartan manjna to put it in a crude way) and that too we were spoiled by our housemaids (didi, aunty that you can relate to), only did we do dishes (bartan) if the housemaid didn’t turn up and we really didn’t know what a dishwasher was until a few years back 🤷‍♀️

Life in Nairobi too was kinda spoilt coz I had the best housekeeper, so while we did have the provision for dishwasher, the owner never got it installed so life continued the same as India!

But then came a life changing moment, we moved to Dubai! Life changed, lifestyle changed, people, environment, weather, everything changed, the luxury of a housekeeper did not fit anymore in our scheme of things!

We got introduced to this new concept called hotel residences so it’s like another side of a hotel which is fully furnished and serviced, meant for long stays and these apartments are loaded like seriously loaded with all amenities you can think of, for DIY purpose, including the Dishwasher 😊

So now is my first encounter with a Dishwasher! I honestly had a lot of silly apprehensions about a dishwasher, like all this while I thought of it as a machine that operates aggressively to clean all the grease, and might damage my ceramic or glassware, a dishwash safe tag to me meant that the dish is really really solid to be able to handle a dishwash clean 🙈

So now that I’ve embarrassed myself I’m gonna list what all I learnt from My Beloved Dishwasher and how beautifully it has changed my life for good 🤗

Lesson no.1 – It’s a blessing!

My kitchen size now is literally 1/5th of what I had in Nairobi and this piece of machinery is the most useful appliance I’ve ever used in my kitchen. Apart from cleaning, it absorbs all the excess load of dishes lying here n there in my kitchen and keeps in itself till am ready to put the switch on 😀

Lessson no.2 – It takes away grease and cleans sparkling shining each time every time!

Being a punju means a bit of greasy tadkas off n on and I was specifically advised to rinse my dishes and pots n pans before putting in a dishwasher but then who doesn’t make a mistake… I forgot once but it didn’t matter the dishes were still sparkling clean like every time! Yayyyy… so you need not rinse the dishes anymore. The new age dishwashers are capable of cleaning without rinsing 😱

Lesson no.3 – Use your dishwasher wisely and utilise it to full capacity.

So a typical cycle of a dishwash takes about 1–2 hours hence night time is the best to put it at work but what to do with the dishes from the whole day. Worry not! Just keep placing them inside the dishwasher and it should be full after your last cook of the day – dinner!

Lesson no.4 – The Eco Mode!

Not sure if all models have it but mine is Bosch and it has an Eco mode which consumes less energy less water, runs a bit longer like about 3 hours and then the cooling time but it’s just perfect! You run it right before sleeping and then take out the perfectly fresh dishes every morning ☺️

Lesson no.5 — Make sure both the rotating fans the top and the bottom one do not have any dishes obstructing them, its crucial for it to function properly. You can pile up dishes but carefully, not coming in the way of fans and set so that they don’t fall or turn upside down.

Lesson no.6 – Love your Dishwasher ❤️ and it loves you back!

Handle it with care and love, don’t overload it I mean make full use but don’t overstep, then you might hear some funny sounds when you run it. That’s the way it talks to you, so learn and respect their language and get used to adjust stuff accordingly. Make sure everything is fitted well, not hanging loose coz that might interrupt its cleaning cycle and it’s hurt! You don’t want to hurt your best friend, do you?

My relationship with my Dishwasher – The first thing I wish good morning to, my day starts with me opening the door of my Dishwasher and taking out those shiny sparkling fresh dishes and ends with closing the same door of my Dishwasher with a tiny tablet inserted for it to do the Magic, The Good Night Kiss! Such is our bond, our relationship ❤️

I think my dishwasher is my second crush after Shahrukh Khan so am gonna name it… SRK 😍

Am I the only one or can you also relate to this relationship? Would love to hear…

Cheers
